Getting Ready for PreSchool and Nursery
Transition is a process, not an event. Our process is designed to meet the needs of the cohort and to ensure that your child settles as quickly as possible in order to experience a successful start to school.
We recognise children start with a range of previous experiences including:
- Some children will be transferring from another setting or childminder
- Some children will be coming straight from home
- Those who are familiar with Kingswood as they currently attend Preschool or have had an older sibling with us in the past
For every child starting Preschool we provide:
- A Home Visit, to ensure your child has met Key Staff members in a place they are familiar.
- Shorter sessions in Preschool with one key member of their family
- Shorter sessions in Preschool independently
- Successful shorter sessions independently before staying for lunch, and/or the full day.
For every child starting Nursery we provide:
- Introductory meeting at school with the Headteacher
- Opportunities for a family member and your child to visit Nursery, to explore our spaces
- A Home Visit, to ensure your child has met Key Staff members in a place they are familiar.
- A staggered start for children starting in September.

Children only learn when they feel secure and settled; it is a priority for us to work in partnership with our families to make transition a positive and successful process.
If having read through the ‘New Family Info Session’ Power Point presentation and information below you have further questions, please contact us. We are keen to answer any queries you may have and provide reassurance.

Moving On to Reception Class
We are not able to meet the statutory requirement for children to access education in the term after they turn 5 years old, apart from with the occasional exception of summer born children. Most children leave us at the end of the Summer Term to start Recpetion Class in September.
