Online Safety
Young children learn best through first hand experiences, being outside, movement and face to face conversation. At Kingswood we use screens minimally, to enhance understanding such as watching a family celebrate a festival together, to access recorded music from a range of genre, or to record children's learning.
Our school grounds are a mobile phone free space. Phones must not be used by anyone bringing or collecting children from school, until you are well outside of the main gate.
Children under 5 who access apps, streaming services, and websites are at risk of encountering inappropriate and dangerous images and people. Unlimited time on devices can put children's development at risk.
We promote online safety and regularly share reminders and updates with families. At Kingswood we will speak to you if we are concerned that your child is accessing inappropriate material online outside of school; this is seen as a Safeguarding concern.
It is a Safeguarding priority that all children in the Kingswood community are safe whilst using the internet and online games, apps and programmes.
In order to prevent your child from being at risk of harm whilst using devices, and to ensure their wellbeing, we recommend:
- Always have an adult present when using devices
- Parental controls are set on any devices
- Make sure you know what sites they are visiting and have passwords set up
- Help your child learn through appropriate games and apps which are interactive
- Have your devices in communal areas so you are always aware of what they are watching or playing
- Set time limit boundaries
- Avoid screens in the hour before bedtime
- Read the Online Safety communication updates from school
